Teaching Evaluations
Below are sample student comments (copied verbatim) from the 2024 - 2025 academic year. For additional information regarding my student evaluations, please feel free to email me at aslotkin@fau.edu.
“I love the practical and multimodal approach to the pedagogical engagements of the course. The Professor's creative dexterity at bringing the palpability of an idea, concept, or topic to bear to stimulate comprehension and overall clarity of what's being discussed is a great plus! The fact that cultural rhetoric opened my eyes to a wealth of cultural knowledge and research sites that would have been left unexplored is another plus in my engagement with this course. The hitherto, unexplored, marginalized, and relegated areas of research that could help foster university-community relationship came to light in a most interesting way! The way Dr. Slotkin handled this course made me want to do something related to this course in my research focus for my PhD.”

“What I liked most about this course is the practical knowledge, such as 'how to form an email', 'writing a professional letter' and 'cover letter' assignments were framed as beneficial to our overall success post graduation. Even while still enrolled, these assignments improve a student's overall standard of living. Additionally, the career center visits were helpful. Peer review was helpful, particularly in this class, as we were shown how to give useful feedback. Having been shown how to conduct it beforehand led to greater success overall.”

“I appreciated how Dr. Slotkin cared about his students improving their professional writing skills; he always gave immensely detailed responses as to why I received the grades I did and where I could improve. He knows how to engage with his students, so a somewhat dull topic can feel interesting. Nowadays, learning can be very mundane, but this class gave me key concepts that I can take and use in the real world daily. I hope that Dr. Slotkin continues to teach at FAU he is genuinely a professor I will always think back on when I am in my profession.”

“What I enjoy most about this course is Professor Slotkin's regular checking in with his students. I believe the professor does this to gauge our understanding of assignments and to create a conversation if we are confused or have any questions. I was engaged by the nature of the assignments, as they provided me with a new approach to academic writing. Academic writing can be very standardized but I think the work we did in class and what I wrote for assignments were allowed to be more personal. They also had the added benefit of being something I could use outside of class.”
